Rainforest

Anthology of Forests Launch

The way humidity blobs on my hand and expels into the world on a lick of sunlight. Stains of color blush in the warmth. It’s the green of a feeling. It’s a way to become part and apart. A rainforest is a magnificent example of the way a forest is everything, and one thing.

They are the oldest living ecosystems.

Endless rains. Wherever there is water, life holds its hand.

Home to the most potent medicines.

A keeper of global climate.

If the boreal forests create one third of the world’s oxygen, the rainforest has half of the world’s plant and animals. Many rainforests are known for their hot and humid climates, but there are temperate rainforests in mid-latitude coastal regions.

To begin to describe the effect the rainforest has on life, and the massive amount of destruction being caused, knowledge being subverted for the sake of colonialism and capitalism would not be fair.

So can I say we? Because to love something is to become accountable for it and not a choice, but a life force. The forest is close: right there on the skin.
